The Cape Blanco lighthouse is in Cape Blanco State Park off Hwy. 101. The lighthouse is on Oregon’s farthest western point of land. It's around 65 miles north of the Oregon-California border. It's the oldest continually operating lighthouse in Oregon. The Cape Blanco lighthouse has the highest focal plane in Oregon at 256 feet above the sea. Mabel E. Bretherton was Oregon's first woman keeper beginning in March 1903. Check the Cape Blanco Heritage Society's website for the hours to climb the lighthouse and visit the gift shop from April to October. The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
We were here one late afternoon in June 2002 but we found the gate was closed for the night. So we parked the rental car and we walk a total of a mile up and down a blacktop road to the lighthouse. The following morning we returned and the gate was open. Then in 2006 we stopped by again to take pictures and visit the gift shop.
